Recently we installed Astro at our little abode and I insisted on having Discovery Health and Living in our package. I love watching real life documentaries on home, parenting and babies. Throw my hands up in the air! My maternal instincts are surfacing! If you think this blog is about me being pregnant or trying to get pregnant, wait on – not just yet.
I found myself following a reality episode that keeps me up every night till 11pm. “Jon & Kate plus 8” is a reality series of a chaotic family that grew from 2 to 10 in 6 years. Jon and Kate are parents to twins and sextuplets. They life is like a whirlwind everyday. It’s like daycare 7 days a week, 365 days a year – without breaks or off days! Here’s their life in a nutshell.
I learn from their story that life can be unpredictable. We always here that phrase said when a tragedy or death happens. But unexpected events can also happen when it’s about life. The question I asked myself is, are we ready to embrace life when it hits us right in the face. I totally respected the fact that both Jon and Kate refused to budge at their decision not to have reductions when they found out 6 babies were on their way. The news must have been a shocker and definitely trying, yet they decided to embrace life together – as a family. They allowed the gift of life to become a blessing and not a hindrance to their marriage.
How many times do we have life presented to us in different packages? Like a friend in need? Or a request for help? Or a mental nudge to spend more time with people who matter? Or have our worlds shrunk into this minuscule universe that revolves around me, I and myself. A thought to ponder about since life on earth is just but a breath of air.
But the greatest unpredictable package of life that was presented to me was when I heard that God sent His son to die for me. What did I do? I chose to embrace it. I made the decision to accept God as my Saviour and best friend. Since then, life has not been a bed of roses, but it has been a new lease and a brand new page written every day. This is my story in the making, what’s yours?
