At the mention of a photo shoot, you’d think of glitz, glamour and layers of make up. Especially if it’s for a wedding! But we decided to play it simple this time with an in-house photographer and his lovely assistant to capture some shots. They are none other than my dad and mom.
We were thinking of places that would give us some authentic classy feel. Unfortunately Malaysia’s old heritage buildings are either torn down or refurbish that little or none of the colonial existence survived. We finally found two places that fit our liking – KL PAC and PAM (Pertubuhan Arkitek Malaysia), just off Dataran Merdeka.
KLPAC
We arrived bright and early.. Spotted the abandon building within the vicinity and took off towards it. Then at the corner of my eye, I spotted a security guard waving at us. (Shucks! He’s about to tell us that we’re not allowed to take pictures here) Deciding to ignore his flappy hand waves, we quickly walked away, round the bend, out of his sight. Then thinking of another way to get around the building avoiding his dotting eyes, we individually made a bee line in four separate directions that would lead us behind the building. We made it! Manage to take some pictures before another guard spotted us and told us that pictures re prohibited unless authorized. Caught! Later we found out from an officer that we had to get authorization from the Board of YTL since it is private property. Following that, we wrote a letter to YTL and now waiting for a favourable reply.
PAM
Built in 1907, PAM is an old double storey bungalow in the heart of the city. A rarity in a metropolitan like KL. Painstakingly restored and kept by the association. The architecture of the building stands strong till this day and the best thing is its open for public without entrance fee or hassle. I learned that many art and architecture students come here on weekdays to take pictures and survey the building. Find out more about PAM, here.
