With the mere mention of “wedding” every other girl will squeal and dive head on into the planning, prepping and pampering. I said every other girl, because despite being very excited about my wedding day, my heart and mind race forward to the chapters after the big day and into marriage – married life to be specific.
I once sat through a financial planning talk and the speaker gave a simple yet insightful statement. She said something like, “The education system covers almost every intellectual topic probable but they missed out two highly important topics – Money management and Parenting skills.”
I’d add to that ‘Relationship Skills’. I’m not writing this because I’m going through an emotional roller coaster, but the thought that too often people get into relationships and some even into marriages before acquiring the knowledge and skills necessary to take care of their partners roused my fingers to type.
Coming back to my thoughts of married life, I don’t believe one should go through a crash course or a 101 on marriage but I do believe everyone needs to be well-read someway or another. And continuous effort is inevitable since it’s a life long journey. I’m sure there will be issues on habits, character, peeves and so forth but everything would be manageable if the relationship is a “working” relationship and not “sitting” relationship. I’m very grateful that God has me given someone that is proactive and supportive in relationship building.
