All in a day's work

Just one day of work in KL confirmed my apprehension of having an office in the heart of the city. Don’t get me wrong, I think the city is very cosmopolitan with a lot to see and buy and a constant energy round the clock. For the reason of conducting a training session for one of my clients in KL, I had to prep myself up and hop onto an LRT at 7am in the morning. Fighting for space with the masses on the train, being squashed and stepped on wasn’t much fun after all. Reaching my destination after one hour of physical battle and then having to replay that cycle at the end of work just gives me a renewed respect for public transport patrons. They go through it every working day, without complain, numb to the environment and thankful for the rail system. I on the other hand grew even more grateful for the four-wheeler I have.

On my one hour journey, I also realized that Malaysians have adopted a new rule at the LRT stations. The masses were seen neatly lined up in behind the yellow line. These lines were systematic, coordinated and structured. I looked at it bewildered at how orderly Malaysians can be (if they want to). No one barging into the LRT, instead people was seen allowing passengers to alight first before they got on the train. I was pleased, proud in fact to see this happening. These seasoned patrons seem to know the rules of the station while I observe and follow obediently just like any new visitor on the block. So despite the tedious two hours back and forth, it was an experiential trip all in a day’s work.

*Don’t be mistaken, I do take public transport. Just that it’s been a LONG time since my last ride.
