From city to the salty sea

Nerve wrecking as it may be, I managed to gather my guts to Pulau Payar. It’s been a year or more since my last dive. This one was really a challenge. I had my doubts, fears and definitely what ifs but I was determined to get it done. After all a license to dive is nothing if I don’t practice. The waters were calm and friendly. I met my first glimpse of beauty underwater at the beach jetty with trillions of fishes lacing in the lucid shore. Immediately the flute fish caught my eye, if such a beauty is seen at shore what more in the deep blue sea?
Without even time to hesitate, everything went by so quickly and I soon found myself jumping into the sea with my gear. My mind was blank except to get the steps correct and not lose the dive master underwater. Thankfully no problems descending, but the first few minutes underwater was truly mind over matter. There I was eyes fixed on the dive master’s fin and trying to enjoy the sight, but my mind was battling over “Shall I call it off?” and “You can do it Deb!” The battle slowly subdued and I was able to actually appreciate the sight. It was beautiful! Literally breathtaking when I saw the shark cruising along under me! All in all it was a wonderful holiday. I’m planning to strengthen my water confidence so when the next dive comes around, my eyes wouldn’t be stuck on the dive master’s flippers but instead on the marine life…
