I have been putting off the offer to decorate yet another room simply because I’m kind of dry on interior inspiration. I had a few things in mind but just not enough to spice up two long empty walls. But since my principal politely persisted in having the room plastered with embellishments, I gave in.
Headed off to IKEA again to stash some coasters, foam mats, plastic sheets and mouse pads. It was a pity the budget this time was a bit steep. Otherwise I would have piled up on those colourful picture frames and kid-like wall mountings! I really have no clue what I was going to do this time - no plan, no layout, no idea! And there I was just grabbing things that were RM3 and below (now you know what steep means;)
With a good heap of stuff in front of me, I sketched away some patterns and shapes and got a friend to cut them for me. Hmmm, thinking it would be easier now with circles, stars, quarters and squares, I still had no clue how to put all these shapes together to make a nice mural!
Oh great, there before me a spotless white washed wall. This was it, I knew if I fumbled there would be marks of black sticky tape on the wall. I knew that if it didn’t look good after I stuck them on, it would take double the effort to clean up the mess.
ARGH! I stopped myself from drowing in rationale and got on with it. Double taped all the tiny pieces and slapped them on bit by bit. Carefully but not too perfectionally bothered. I didn’t care much about precision and dimension, measurement or angle. And within minutes in the midst of all the carefree fun. I realized it was all coming into a nice psychedelic array of patterns.
Ah! If interior designing was just as fret free I would opt for it again.
The first psychedelic pattern which actually resembles a journey (Not sure where yet, but i'd leave it to my students to ponder as to where their imagination will bring them)
This one is an idea upon an idea. The stripy place mats was Terence's idea of just plastering them on the wall. I thought it was ok, but needed a bit of variation. Gave it some contrast in size, added a lil something and now this wall somehow threads a little of bit of 'America' in it to me.
This beaming sphere star would be my favourite, it gives the room a sense of spaciousness! Ahhh task done and I'm completely satisfied :)
