Rachel left for National Service this morning. It ‘s a brand new experience for her, in fact it’s her first time leaving home for a long time. When she got news she was chosen, she came home balling over it, but quickly got back on her feet since it was quite sometime away. Then only a few months prior that I was excited and ready to let her go… but she wasn't too sure about it...
Time flies, this morning we accompanied her to the stadium where they gathered. Pockets of families huddled around the 7 busses that were to leave for Terengganu.
Some looked excited, some already found new friends and were chatting away, while still others looked quite troubled and dampened at the fact that they’ll be pealed away from their families for a short 3 months.
Finally leaving and on her own… She’ll be fine. Building character and discipline, testing and strengthening of her emotions and spirit but most of all imparting the seeds that has been sown in her – it is now!
A short three months will go by in a jiffy, in fact she’d be back for Chinese New Year. I’m already looking forward to it.
