The house is rather quite and I’m left to do the house chores for a whole week. My family is away on a mission trip in one of the orang asli settlements in Bentong’s interiors. Granny and I are left home to care for ourselves. Granny’s very easy to please and she doesn’t demand for anything… only that I settle her breakfast, lunch and dinner and be home at a reasonable time to catch up on her day and add some noise to the stillness.
Sunday night being ‘family time’ for the Chan’s, with my tummy rumbling and too much a hassle to buy food for one (since Granny’s already eaten), I decided to whip up something from moderately stocked up fridge. All I had in mind was soup, but what kind of soup? To my delight I found some shitake mushrooms, cauliflower florets and a few slices of ham. Chopped them up into petite slices and brought it to a boil.
Now I haven’t a clue what the stock was going to be, then suddenly I remembered buying sachet soup not too long ago. Ripped open a sachet and mixed it into the pot. Then I had a taste of it and it was bland! Searched my cupboards for herbs and spices and sprinkled away. Don’t really remember what the exact concoction was, but it tasted good.
Haha! If I had to live alone, I would probably be having soup for most of my dinners. And maybe stews if I’m really hungry. I’d have to say tho, while cutting the veggies and mushrooms I had a ‘moment’ in the kitchen remembering the recent months I was in Perth… How quickly time flies and how many other weird concoctions I’ve come up with since then…
